In the last 24 hours, 49 more cases of cholera were reported, 34 of which were in the municipality of Cacuaco, the epicenter of the disease that has already been identified in three provinces: Luanda, Bengo and Icolo e Bengo.
Of the registered cases, 15 were laboratory confirmed, resulting in death.
Since the beginning of 2025, there have been a total of 332 cases in Angola, aged between two and 73 years, of which 158 (48 percent) are male and 174 (52 percent) are female.
Angola has a total of 20 deaths, of which 17 in the municipality of Cacuaco and two in Viana in the province of Luanda and one in the municipality of Dande in the province of Bengo.
The cholera outbreak was declared with the confirmation of the first case on January 7, in the municipality of Cacuaco, Luanda province, which is located in a suburban area with an estimated population of 1.2 million inhabitants.
Authorities ask the population to scrupulously comply with preventive measures, such as regular hand washing, boiling water for 20 minutes or adding five drops of bleach to each liter of water, washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly with boiled or treated water. , among others.
The Health Minister announced on Monday the installation of rehydration stations and cholera treatment centers in the neighborhoods most affected by the disease, urging families to seek treatment from the first symptoms.
