The motto is the same: reduce imports and produce nationally. Massano announces 5.5 trillion kwanzas for investment projects

Betting on reducing imports and increasing national production continues to be one of the Government's mottos which, for this reason, has 5.5 billion kwanzas available for the implementation of public investment projects. The funding is intended to make this motto a reality, that is, to stimulate production nationally and reduce imports of goods, especially construction materials.

The announcement was made by José de Lima Massano, Minister of State for Economic Coordination, who explained that the amount available is part of the government's 2025 Public Investment Program, an initiative that constitutes a business opportunity for the business sector.

Speaking at the meeting with members of construction industry associations, cited by Angop, Lima Massano highlighted the fact that the funds constitute a stimulus to national production and a considerable reduction in imports of products that can be manufactured internally.

Speaking more specifically about the construction sector, the Minister of State recalled that until November last year, Angola disbursed 1.5 billion dollars to import construction materials, which scenario must be reversed, through the use of potential and capacity installed in the country.

According to José de Lima Massano, this sector has great potential, and its industrial capacity should be made the most of, which saw growth of around eight percent until the third quarter of 2024, compared to 2023, corresponding to 2 .5 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

In this sense, the minister urged associations to play a more active role in the construction materials industry in its various specialties and increase the productivity of their companies, writes Angop.

According to Lima Massano, making better use of the productive capacity of the country's market is one of the answers to stimulating the national economy, generating income and improving people's quality of life.

On the occasion, Carlos dos Santos, Minister of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, highlighted the progress of the construction industry as an element that will make it possible to implement the targeted self-construction program and reduce the cost of materials.

Also this Monday, before holding the working meeting - where Rui Miguêns de Oliveira, Minister of Industry and Commerce, was also present, as well as members of the Association of Construction Materials Industries of Angola, the Association of Cement Industries of Angola and the National Association of Timber Industries of Angola – the Minister of State paid visits to Ferpinta Angola and Extrulider.
