MED launches 2nd phase of the PCER, which provides autonomy for 58 general education institutions

The Ministry of Education (MED) launched, this Monday, the second phase of the Project for the Creation of Reference Schools (PCER) – whose main objective is to improve the quality of education in the country –, which foresees giving autonomy to 58 institutions of teaching in the management of its development plan.

Thus, within the scope of the project, the guardianship started, this Monday, with the training of the managers of the educational establishments, who, over the course of two months, will discuss matters regarding the elaboration of development plans of the establishments, according to Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).

According to the RNA, this is an initiative of the guardianship that intends to give more autonomy to the establishments in question.

"We understand that as important as having managers and teachers who are individually well trained, facilities in good condition and better financial conditions, it is also necessary that the entire school community understands, assumes and implements good practices, as these are what will be shared as expand the network of reference schools", said, at the time, the Minister of Education, Luísa Grilo, quoted by RNA.

On his turn, Caetano Domingos, director general of the National Institute of Education Staff informed that 58 institutions in the country were chosen: "That the 58 institutions, which in this first phase with colleagues from teaching schools, will later have teaching schools professional technician through several stages up to two months of training", he said, quoted by RNA.

According to a communiqué from the MED, which VerAngola had access to, the launch ceremony of the second phase of the PCER was presided over by Minister Luísa Grilo.

"PCER's main objective is to improve the quality of education in Angola and aims to promote 51 schools, from different subsystems, from pre-school education to high school, and seven vocational training centers in the country's 18 provinces, providing them with of human, material and financial conditions to guarantee a better service to citizens, of school age, through access to quality education, by reinforcing the professional skills of teachers, improving the material and budgetary conditions of educational institutions, school management processes, and the promotion of external assessment of students' learning", reads the ministry's note.
