New police commander promises “close fight” against crime

The new commander-general of the National Police of Angola (PNA) promised a “close fight” against crime and defended that the force of the corporation “must be vain” in the exercise of its function, especially during patrolling.

:

Arnaldo Manuel Carlos considered that the PNA staff should strive for raising the level of professionalism, selflessness, organization and discipline, maintaining perfect alignment with defense and security bodies, with the bodies of the administration of justice, churches and civil society.

The commander-general was speaking during the ceremony in which he was presented to all the forces of the Ministry of the Interior, during a general graduation that took place at the Higher Institute of Police Sciences, in Luanda.

Arnaldo Carlos, appointed last week by President João Lourenço, assured, in his speech, that he will pay "greater attention to the profile of the police, their behavior and impeccable aplomb".

"The police officer on patrol must really be vain, he must not be ashamed because he is the guardian of the city, he is the guarantor of public order and tranquility, he must not feel inhibited by any situation, he must be a star, professional and knowledgeable in police science. ", he defended.

A "close fight against crime" was the promise expressed by the new commander-general of the PNA, having guaranteed to give priority to preventive activity: "The action of the police must have a proactive and preventive character".

For Arnaldo Manuel Carlos, who has been with the corporation for almost four decades, "it is essential to work on anticipating, preventing and cutting criminal actions aimed at subverting public order and tranquility."

The official defended that it is necessary to "give special attention to actions aimed at guaranteeing peace and tranquility before, during and after the general elections, scheduled for the second half of August, to ensure greater approximation to the population with proximity policing".

For his part, the Minister of the Interior, Eugénio Laborinho, reiterated the need for the new commander-general of the PNA to "fight friendliness, nepotism, corruption and intrigues from the bottom to the top" of the police force.

"He should bet on greater cooperation between all the organs of the Ministry of the Interior, in the training of staff, promotion of staff with a long time in their posts and improving the social and working conditions of the staff", defended the minister.
