Parents satisfied with restarting face-to-face classes in primary school

The Commission of Parents and Guardians of Education welcomed the announcement of the restart of face-to-face classes, in primary education, scheduled for 10 February, calling for the sending of students to schools.

:

The resumption of classes in primary education (from 1st to 5th grade), which had been suspended since March 2020, was scheduled for October 26, 2020, but was postponed due to the epidemiological assessment made at the time.

Speaking to the Lusa agency, Manuel Diogo said that they have "sensitized" parents and guardians to send students to schools, remembering that professionals from the Ministry of Education also need to return to classrooms, regardless of whether the Ministry of Health does not. have the capacity for mass testing.

The president of the Commission of Parents and Guardians of Education considered that, despite the situation and conditions of the country, "it is obvious that the educational teaching process must be resumed".

"In all of our meetings, we have been sensitizing parents and guardians to send their children to schools, regardless of whether the schools are not in the state that parents would like to see, due to the lack of biosecurity material, but there is an effort that the Government has been making and we, the parents, have been following. So there is no need to continue with our children at home ", he said.

Manuel Diogo stressed that the country faces economic and financial difficulties, recognizing, however, "that the executive did what was necessary" so that the children in the classrooms would have some use and keep themselves busy.

"We also think that the teachers were totally adrift and it was possible to occupy them in the activities that they have been engaged in. We recognize that teachers are frontline fighters and, in any circumstance, they have to be in classrooms. classes ", he stressed.

The head of the commission highlighted his efforts in mobilizing the sending of those students who did not attend in the first quarter, and should be present from now on.

Manuel Diogo said that the concern about the situation of covid-19 in the country remains, taking into account that, "effectively, the country does not provide an effective guarantee for the protection" of the people.

"But given the need to get the machine moving, we are also, with open arms, dropping our kids into classrooms, regardless of the circumstances we have been showing," he said.

The Minister of Education, Luísa Grilo, considered, Monday, that the resumption of classroom teaching activities in primary education, is "a sign of confidence" in the school, making a positive balance of the first quarter of classroom classes.

Primary classes are the largest section of the national school system, covering more than two million students.

In the new presidential decree, which updated the preventive measures in the face of the covid-19 pandemic, during the public calamity situation, in force until 9 February, primary school students (from 1st to 5th grades), whose classes have been suspended since March 2020, as a result of covid-19, they return on 10 February to classroom teaching activities.

Classes from 6th to 13th classes, which started again on October 5th, 2020, as well as those from higher education, are maintained, but there is still no date for the restart of pre-school activities.
