“E-Voluir”: the contest that asks for creative ideas from PALOP projects

UNDP - United Nations Development Program launched, within the scope of the e-Voluir program, a contest of creative ideas for project development in African Portuguese Speaking Countries (PALOP), with registrations until 7 February.

:

“The objective is to select creative minds in each of the five PALOP countries, which, with the support of experienced entrepreneurs and mentors, will create 'startups' with solutions for the present and the future, in two areas:' e-Governance and Digital Transformation ', and' Work and Economy '”, said in a statement the UNDP in Angola.

Therefore, participants "will have to be innovative, insightful and use new technologies to respond to the biggest problems" in both areas, "especially in the current context of the covid-19 pandemic", the note stressed.

In the area of “e-Governance and Digital Transformation”, participants must present “practical, innovative and adapted to the local context” solutions in order to contribute to improving the provision of basic public services, the efficiency and effectiveness of the public sector, and to bring citizens, the private sector, civil society and the government closer together, the document detailed.

In the area of "Work and Economy", candidates will have to present solutions for formal and informal workers, "with a focus on the socioeconomic recovery of the country where they live, but also on the empowerment of youth and women".

According to the organization under the tutelage of UNDP, the proposals submitted by the participants will have to cause not only a positive impact in the countries where they operate, but also “to fit into the market, so that‘ startups ’are economically viable for their materialization”.

To support this mission, the e-Voluir innovation program has mentors with curricula and experience, predisposed to accompany the process of creating and developing the ideas of the participants, guiding them to “the best paths”, the note added.

In addition to mentoring, e-Voluir participants will be able to participate in ‘workshops’ on ‘design thinking’ and innovation methodologies and maintain direct contact with other ‘startups’, companies and local and foreign investors.

"Today's challenges are not the same as in the past and, therefore, today's solutions must also be different," said the note.

Based on this premise, UNDP offices in African Portuguese Speaking Countries have joined Fábrica de Startups, the largest innovation hub in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to create the e-Voluir innovation program.

In Angola, the ‘online’ program is being coordinated by the UNDP Acceleration Laboratory, with support from the Angolan ‘Disruption Lab’ innovation hub.

Participation in e-Voluir is completely free and the program will be developed in a completely ‘online’ environment.

"Registration closes on February 7, 2021 and the first contacts between participants and mentors will take place in the ideation week, starting on February 22, 2021", pointed out the organization.

Interested parties can register through the UNDP Angola website.
