Government wants Chinese investors to collaborate in forest exploration

The Government urged Chinese investors to invest in partnerships with the State, to the detriment of small forest explorers, only interested in “survival”.

:

The appeal was made by the Secretary of State for Forests, André Moda, during an Angola-China Business Forum in the field of Agriculture and Fisheries, held by video conference and promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Angola.

André Moda said that small forest explorers are only looking for business to survive.

According to the Secretary of State for Forests, the investment priority is for private companies, stating that Angola recognizes China's potential in the area of forests.

"We know that they were much more inclined to cooperate with small forest explorers, the Chinese discovered some species that most interested them, but I inform you that Angola has more than 150 rich and high-value forest species", he stressed.

China is the main importer of wood extracted from Angolan forests, and several news reports have been published in recent years that account for illegal logging activities that have already resulted in the arrest and detention of citizens of this country.

The official stressed that a survey was carried out that identifies the forest plantation areas where these species with greater value can be experienced.

"That is why we call you to participate with us in the investigation. Of the 69.3 percent of millions of hectares of forests, you will find millions and millions of other species, which you can explore for internal and external use," he said.

The Secretary of State for Forests also recognized "the value of China in the field of art", adding that Angola has species of trees and vegetables that can create "this appetite".

With regard to honey production, André Moda said that it is an area for investment, noting that a liter of honey costs between 10 dollars to 12 dollars, if produced locally, and if it is exported to China, it will represent "mutual gains ".

"We invite you to come to this area that is so attractive. Honey has a by-product, called acerra, which is also a product for art, namely for candle production, which is widely used in China," said Angolan ruler, also listing ecotourism among the attractive areas for Chinese businessmen.
