"Efacec is a very important" and "essential" company, says Portuguese Economy Minister

The Portuguese Minister of Economy said this Wednesday that he is monitoring the situation of Efacec, following the departure of Isabel dos Santos from the capital, pointing out that the company is "very important" and "essential" for the future of Portuguese industry.

On Tuesday, Efacec workers demanded that the government take "the necessary measures" to defend the group's 2,600 jobs, rejecting the current "troubled moment" - due to the 'Luanda Leaks' process - as a "pretext" for further degradation of their rights.

Asked about the issue, on the sidelines of the second day of the conference Building The Future, organized by Microsoft Portugal, in Lisbon, Pedro Siza Vieira said he was following the subject "with interest and attention".

He said that the Secretary of State for the Economy will meet on Thursday with the Workers Commission and the next day with the Executive Committee of the company, which is going through a troubled period. The businesswoman Isabel dos Santos, involved in the 'Luanda Leaks' process, announced last week that she was leaving the shareholder structure.

"Efacec is a very important company, a technologically very solid company, essential for the future of Portuguese industry, for the challenges of the energy transition, the knowledge that is accumulated there has to be preserved," stressed the governor.

"There's no reason to worry", he said.
