State entities must be "on the front line" against corruption, considers Minister of Interior

The Minister of the Interior argued this Tuesday that state entities with "specific powers" to combat corruption should "position themselves at the forefront" to "defeat this and other evils that plague the public administration".

Eugénio Laborinho, who was speaking at the opening of a lecture on the 28th anniversary of the General Inspectorate of State Administration (IGAE), also considered that the fight against corruption is an "enormous task" that "should engage the whole of Angolan society".

According to the ruler, it is the IGAE's primary task to combat "the evils that still afflict the management and administration processes of public bodies and services," with a view to giving substance to the President's political orientation.

The fight against corruption, impunity and nepotism are the axes of João Lourenço's government, in power for two years.

Eugénio Laborinho, who also praised the actions of IGAE in relation to the supervision and control of the organs of direct and indirect administration of the State, also pointed out the "excellent relations of solidarity and institutional cooperation".

"Which are increasingly solidified as a result of the joint actions that have been developed, essentially, in the scope of the fight against small corruption", pointed out the minister.

At least 69 cases of corruption, 12 of embezzlement, 38 of extortion and 112 of poor public service were registered by IGAE between August and December 2019, according to data revealed this Tuesday.

The information was transmitted by the deputy inspector general, Eduardo Semente, stating that the actions to "combat petty corruption" began in August 2019 and the occurrences were registered "essentially" in Luanda.
