Eni wins new license for oil exploration in Namibe province

The National Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) has decided to award 60 percent of the exploration and production license for Block 28 to the Italian oil company Eni, as part of its first International Bidding Round.

:

According to an Eni press release, sent this Friday to Lusa in Luanda, the award of exploration rights for Block 28 in Namibe province results from the competitive bidding round that took place in 2019.

The Italian oil company, with a 60 percent stake, will be the operator of the licence, located in "deep waters in the unexplored" Namibe Basin, with the contractor group including Sonangol with 20 percent, while the remaining percentage will be awarded to "a third party during the closing of the contract".

According to Eni, which currently produces around 145,000 barrels of oil per day in Angola, the award of Block 28 is part of ANPG's bidding programme for the period 2019-2025.

Eni has been present in Angola since 1980 and the award of this new license will allow the Italian oil company to "further consolidate its long-term presence in the country.
