New rules in foreign exchange transactions have already been worth 30 complaints

The National Bank of Angola (BNA) has received 30 complaints since the new rules on foreign exchange operations in foreign currency came into force, said the governor of the central bank.

:

"We are receiving some complaints regarding difficulties in moving accounts in foreign currency, but not many", said José de Lima Massano, saying that 30 have been received until today, that is, almost one a day.

As for the identified cases, the bank's supervisory services have acted immediately “to correct” and ensure compliance with the rules.

Since January, private foreign exchange transactions have been carried out without the need to submit any documentation, which results from the process of easing procedures for the purchase of foreign exchange.

Thus, it became possible to carry out foreign exchange transactions without any justification in an annual limit of 120 thousand dollars, including expenses with travel or unilateral transfers of a private nature and excluding payments for health, education and accommodation expenses, when they are made directly to the providers of these services.

The measure was announced in November last year by the BNA deputy governor, Manuel Tiago Dias.

The banks thus no longer required customers to present proof of travel in order to have access to foreign currency, up to a limit of 120 thousand dollars, while maintaining the requirements related to the prevention of money laundering and terrorism, which should continue to be observed by commercial banks and exchange offices.
