Lieutenant General João Borges – who, as part of the work day he carried out in that province, met, this Monday, with the governor of Cuanza Norte, João Diogo Gaspar – explained that this visit to Cuanza Norte aimed to find out "and review ways for the existing airport facilities here to be reused to accommodate a Ndalatando Maneuvering Aerodrome".
"My mission here is fundamentally limited to observing these facilities and seeing how we can reuse them. The intention is to reuse these facilities to probably relocate a maneuver airfield, where a special troop system will also be implemented", he pointed out, quoted in a statement from the government of the province of Cuanza Norte, to which VerAngola had access.
On the occasion, the lieutenant general also admitted the "possibility of building some classrooms on site for probable courses that the Air Force will have to carry out".
The official also mentioned that the unit will have a special air control system and, although it will be renovated, the airport will continue with the same name and infrastructure, as the security body will only use the runway for military and staff trainings.
This project, which could be implemented "very soon", is seen by the governor of the province as "extremely important", as it will contribute to its dynamism, with Diogo Gaspar expressing "full support for carrying out these actions", says still the note.
According to Angop, the transformation of this airport, which has been closed for over 15 years, will take place from next year.
In addition to the visit to this airport, "other strategic points were also visited, at the level of the city of Ndalatando, to carry out the project", such as a housing project in Camuaxi, which according to Angop, will be where future employees that are part of the airport project will be hosted.
