The Minister of the Interior said this Tuesday in Luanda that in the last two years the country has recorded tactical-police incidents that "unfortunately" some ended in deaths of citizens and police.

Eugénio Laborinho, who was speaking at the opening of the Scientific Conference on the profile of the agent and the use of police force, promoted by the Superior Institute of Police and Criminal Sciences, did not advance numbers.

The governor stressed that this finding requires reflection on the type of training that is being implemented, especially in the latest entry courses held, considering the relevance of the issue of techniques for handling firearms and other coercive means, for the damage they can cause.

For Eugénio Laborinho, these areas play "an unquestionable role in determining the profile of the police officer that Angola and its children badly need.

The head of the Interior said he hoped that the conclusions of the conference would meet current demands and that they would be applied in the next frameworks in the corporation, with a view to correcting some less good profiles and improving those that are well.

According to the minister, in a timely manner, the conference is held to reflect the profile of the policeman, since an institution like the National Police cannot recruit citizens without a careful selection process that involves the observance of the academic degree, physical, psychological and psychic state, behavioral and criminal background, reflection capacity, as well as the various tests to gauge the interest in joining the corporation.

"One should not think that the police serve only to guarantee employment for those who have no other options in society," said Eugénio Laborinho, pointing out that those who, in addition to having an adequate profile, "have a passion for the profession, because it requires surrender, self-denial, patriotism and discipline.

The police must be imbued with the spirit of serving the country and respecting the law, the minister continued, emphasizing that it is not to "take advantage of their quality to perform illicit acts, in order to solve their social problems.

The minister praised the work of the National Police, which "is sometimes not properly recognized for some indecent acts committed by a minority, which stains the good name of the corporation.

Eugénio Laborinho called for the strengthening of inspection and control measures to hold offenders accountable.

The minister took the opportunity to congratulate the police on their performance at the demonstration on November 21, one of the issues to be addressed at the conference, as there were no incidents from either the staff or the demonstrators.
