State seized nearly 13 billion in goods and values, of which half outside the country

The State has already seized around 13 billion dollars in goods and values withdrawn from the public purse, of which around half abroad, including two million in Portugal.

The information was given this Wednesday the director of the National Asset Recovery Service (SENRA), Eduarda Rodrigues, during the presentation of PRO.REACT project (Support the Strengthening of the National Asset Confiscation System in Angola).

Nearly seven billion is related to the arrest and or seizure of movable and immovable property seized in Angola, established with public funds or proceeds of crime, including factories, supermarkets, buildings, residential buildings, hotels, shares in financial institutions and in various profitable companies, electricity supplies, etc.

Some of these assets have been allocated to public services, including courts, National Ophthalmology Institute and National Blood Institute allowing an annual savings income in the amount of 12.6 million dollars.

Outside the country, the state seized 6.2 billion dollars in bank accounts and not only, of which one third (just over two billion dollars) in Portugal.

Among the countries where the SENRA managed to seize more values ​​are also Switzerland (1.9 billion dollars), followed with values ​​lower than billion, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Cyprus, Bermuda, Singapore, Monaco and the United Kingdom.

Eduarda Rodrigues also said that so far have been voluntarily surrendered or finally recovered to the State (no ongoing court proceedings), 5.3 billion dollars in cash and property.

In monetary terms, the sum amounts to 2.7 billion dollars, of which only 359 million dollars have been voluntarily surrendered.
