The head of state has already landed in Saurimo. According to Angop, there were governor Daniel Félix Neto, as well as members of the provincial government and population, to welcome him at Deolinda Rodrigues Airport.
According to a note from the Government of Lunda Sul, to which VerAngola had access, in addition to the inauguration of the mining project, the President of the Republic's agenda also includes a meeting with the local government.
The Luele project, to be inaugurated this Monday, is located in Lunda Sul, Luele river basin, around 35 kilometers from Saurimo. According to the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas – in a statement, to which VerAngola had access – "the kimberlite was discovered in November 2013, as a result of geological research carried out by Sociedade Mineira de Catoca, with the aim of strengthening and increase its mineral resource base".
According to preliminary studies of the geological potential, "the Luele kimberlite is 600 meters deep, in an area of 105 hectares, with an ore quantity of 647 million tons that will result in 628 million carats", estimating that the exploration of the mine is 60 years, that is, between 2023 and 2083.
"To date, around 59.3 million dollars have been spent on geological research work, 415 million dollars for the implementation of the mine and 161 million dollars for the Treatment Center, totaling 635.3 million dollars", it reads if in the statement.
The return of the President of the Republic to Luanda is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
