The Angolan Nautical Sports Federation (FADEN), in a statement to which VerAngola had access, announced the achievement, saying that it was the national sailing team's sixth African title.
"It is with great pride that we announce that the Angolan sailing team, in the Optimist class, won its sixth African title in the team regatta, during the African championship, which takes place from the 13th to the 19th of October in Vitória, Seychelles", it reads in the note.
According to the federation, this achievement is the result of the determination and dedication of the sailors, clubs and technical committee, to whom FADEN congratulated "for the revalidation of the title".
The feat was not forgotten by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falcão, who also congratulated the team on their achievement.
This year, the national sailing team in the Optimist Class, which has been in the Seychelles Islands since the 9th of this month, had five athletes, who were ready to defend the title of African team champions.
Thus, this year's team was made up of sailors Paulo João, Francisco Cândido, Lauriano Simão, Pedro Paulo and Marisa Simão, while Moisés Camota took on the role of coach and Rui Albuquerque was the mission leader.
FADEN also remembers the "2019 victory, also in the Seychelles, when Angola sent a delegation of 10 sailors and won the individual title with athlete Ronâncio Paulo and the team titles in both genders".
The federation also highlights that "coach Moisés Camota and chief of mission Rui Albuquerque, who led the team in 2019, continue to play the same role in 2024".
