According to a statement from the Supreme Court, to which VerAngola had access, the "election follows the 17th Plenary of SADCAT", which took place between the 22nd and 25th of July, in Angola, and "where the organization's statutes were reviewed", culminating, at the end of August, "at the SADCAT headquarters in Botswana, with the election of the Honorable Judge, Adelino Mohungo, as the new president of SADCAT".
The Angolan will hold this position for a period of one year.
"Adelino Mohungo, who replaces judge Sanji Monangeng, from Botswana, was elected for a one-year term, that is, until August 28, 2025," says the statement.
SADCAT – which was "established under a resolution of the SADC Summit meeting held in Gaborone, Republic of Botswana, on 18 August 2015, in accordance with paragraph 2 of Article 9 and paragraph 6 of Article 10 of the Treaty which establishes SADC" – is headed by an elected presiding judge, as well as a vice-president, "who are assisted by a secretariat".
