After Luanda and Huíla, Picasso's works arrive in Benguela

It is Benguela's turn to host the exhibition of works by Pablo Picasso. The work of the Spanish artist, who has already been to the provinces of Luanda and Huíla, is now on display at the National Archaeology Museum of Benguela, and can be visited until the 19th of next month.

According to a statement sent to VerAngola, after visiting Luanda and Huíla, the 'Enterro do Conde de Orgaz' and 'A Flauta Dupla' – two collections comprising 28 works by the Spanish artist – have been "available to the public since 14 September" at the museum.

The exhibition was inaugurated by the governor of Benguela, Luís Nunes, who was accompanied by the vice-governor for Technical Services and Infrastructure, Adilson Gonçalves, at a ceremony also attended by the CEO of ENSA, Mário Mota Lemos, and the vice-rector of the International University of Cuanza, Maria Rodriguez.

After the inauguration, the exhibition will be open to the public until 19 October.

"Bringing a unique art exhibition to Benguela, featuring works by the legendary Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, and being able to help young Angolan artists come into contact with these works, is an honour", said Matilde Guebe, executive director of ENSA.

Minister Counsellor António Santamaria thanked ENSA for sponsoring the exhibition, enabling it to tour the entire country: "We would like to thank ENSA Seguros because its sponsorship allows the exhibition to tour the entire country before returning to Luanda. For us, being able to share our cultural heritage with Angolans is a privilege. The arrival of this exhibition is part of the cultural diplomacy between Spain and Angola and is, for us, a symbol of the great friendship between our governments and our peoples".

"The exhibition is supported by ENSA, the Ibero-American University Foundation (FUNIBER), which holds the collection of works, the Spanish Embassy in Angola, the International University of Cuanza, AJS Transportes e Logística and has the institutional support of the Government of the Province of Benguela", the statement reads.

The aim of this exhibition is to "show the public, especially the youngest and students, particularly art and visual artists, works by the man who innovated the visual arts in the world".
