The inauguration ceremony of Carlos Vila Nova as President of the Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe is scheduled to start at 9:00 am local time (another hour in Luanda), at the National Assembly (São Tomé parliament), in a solemn session, before the deputies and hundreds of domestic and foreign guests.

"We will have guests from six countries," revealed the director of the National Assembly's public relations office, Ludmila Xavier, one of the institutions of the multi-sectorial commission created to organize the investiture of the new President of the Republic.

Among the guests, Ludmila Xavier highlighted the presence of the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, and the vice president of Angola, Bornito de Sousa.

Also from the Portuguese-speaking community, the organization has confirmed the presence of Cape Verde, through the minister of Foreign Affairs, Rui Figueiredo Soares, and Equatorial Guinea, whose representative was not announced.

"At the level of the African coast we will have the president of the Assembly of Gabon", assured Ludmila Xavier, adding that "there is still a lack of confirmations from some countries".

Some international organizations, such as the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and the European Union (EU), and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country, have also confirmed their presence at the investiture of the new Sao Tome President, which will be broadcast live on state radio and television.

The program of the solemn swearing-in session of the elected President of the Republic foresees, in addition to protocol acts, a greeting message from the President of the Assembly, Delfim Neves, and a message from Carlos Vila Nova, after taking the oath as President of the Republic of Sao Tome and Principe.

The Portuguese President had already expressed, the day after the election, his intention to be present at the inauguration ceremony in Vila Nova, during a telephone conversation, in which he conveyed to the President-elect "successful votes, as well as the development and deepening of relations between Portugal and São Tomé and Príncipe," according to a new report released by the Belém Palace.

Vila Nova will be the fifth President of São Tomé and Príncipe and will succeed Evaristo Carvalho, who did not re-apply, in office.

The future Sao Tome President was elected with the support of the Independent Democratic Action (ADI) party, in the second round of the presidential elections held on September 5, with 57.54 percent of the vote, defeating his opponent, Guilherme Posser da Costa , which got 42.46 percent of the vote.

After his election, Carlos Vila Nova guaranteed that only the people could "give him orders", promising to work to end the "hate and persecution" in the country.
