Government open to dialogue with ENDE workers

The Government is available to keep the "open door" to dialogue with the workers of the National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE), the minister in charge, João Baptista Borges, said on Friday.

:

"There is a process of dialogue, we always defend the maintenance of dialogue. There are demands from the workers' representatives, namely the increase in salaries, which will be attended to as far as the company is able," said the Minister of Energy and Water, on the sidelines of the inauguration of a meter factory.

ENDE's workers suspended, at 12h00 on Saturday, the strike that started on Monday of last week in protest of alleged low wages they receive.

"It is a process of dialogue that is not over yet, the door remains open," stressed the minister.

The minister appealed, however, that there is "sufficient consideration of both the employer and the workers to, on the one hand, to make the living conditions and remuneration of workers can indeed be adjusted to what is the cost of living, but that, on the other hand, is also guaranteed the sustainability of the company.

Deep down, it is ENDE that "guarantees jobs to all", stressed the responsible, indicating that it is based on these recommendations that the administration of the company has been talking to the workers.

The workers demand better working conditions, a wage increase of 100 percent, food and transport subsidies and improvement of medical care and medication.
