At the Presidential Palace in Luanda, João Lourenço and Salvatore Sciacchitano discussed issues related to the organization's cooperation program in Angola, which aims to support the entire operationalization process of the new airport.
In statements to the press, the official considered the international airport an example of the infrastructure necessary to develop the air transport sector on a continental scale.
"It was a great pleasure to see such an infrastructure, as it will help the development of the tourism sector and also the development of businesses," he emphasized in a statement obtained by VerAngola.
Considering that Dr. António Agostinho Neto Airport will be able to transport approximately 15 million passengers per year, Salvatore Sciacchitano stated that these figures represent—"absolutely"—a great opportunity, allowing more and more companies to operate in the country.
The President of the ICAO Council highlighted the liberalization of the African Single Air Transport Market as one of the important elements in facilitating air carrier access to more countries.
Salvatore Sciacchitano emphasized that ICAO is helping African Union member states comply with their obligations under this market.
"Our forecast is that, within 25 years, the African Air Transport Market will grow much more than average. And with this, we will be able to achieve the desired objectives," he concluded.
