World Bank-financed project portfolio in Angola reaches five billion

The senior executive director of the World Bank (WB), Axel Van Trotsenburg, revealed that the portfolio of projects financed by the international financial institution in Angola currently reached approximately five billion dollars, "with an annual increase of approximately 1.2 billion since 2022."

Speaking to the press during a meeting with the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, held this Wednesday in Luanda, Axel Van Trotsenburg reiterated the World Bank's intention to continue financing projects in Angola.

According to a CIPRA statement that VerAngola had access to, the official stated that he "presented the portfolio of projects financed by the World Bank in Angola and reaffirmed the institution's commitment to continue supporting the Angolan government on various projects."

"We reiterate our commitment, not only through investment, but also through analytical work and technical assistance, as well as through support to the private sector," he said, as quoted in the statement.

According to the senior executive director of the World Bank, the "relationship with Angola is strong," and he thanked the Angolan government for "considering the World Bank a key partner for development."

"We have different types of engagements, such as the guarantee that the World Bank Group is providing under the BITA project, which I had the opportunity to visit yesterday [Tuesday]," the official noted.

After the meeting with the WB official, the President of the Republic also met with the president of the Egyptian company Arab Contractors, Ahmed Elassar, who did not speak to the press after the meeting.
