The Parliamentary Assembly of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) kicks off this Wednesday in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, dedicated to the theme “The business environment and sustainable development in CPLP countries after covid-19”.

"We are going to discuss the life of the community, a community of culture, the language of science and education, we are going to talk about democracy in our countries, we are going to deal with parliamentary matters, what are the concerns of CPLP parliamentarians," said Odete Semedo, president of the Guinean group.

According to the deputy of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), covid-19 is a global concern, stressing that the pandemic is still being experienced.

The deputy stressed that the issue of training will also be discussed, especially the teaching of the Portuguese language, and its adoption as the official language of the United Nations (UN).

"There is an issue that is also dear to all countries in this community, which is the free movement of people and goods. What is our strategy in this globalized world," stated Odete Semedo.

The meeting, which will take place this Wednesday and Thursday in Bissau, will be attended by all CPLP countries, some of which are virtually due to the new coronavirus pandemic.

The parliamentary assembly precedes the CPLP Heads of State and Government Summit, which will take place in Luanda, on the next 16th and 17th of July, when the organization celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Angola will officially assume the CPLP presidency during the summit, succeeding Cape Verde, which had its mandate extended for another year due to the covid-19 pandemic.
