Solidarity Marathon: Portuguese athlete joins Belas Shopping to help the needy

:

The covid-19 pandemic has driven several solidarity initiatives in the country. Now it's the turn of Portuguese marathon runner Carlos Simões to run for 12 hours straight on an electric treadmill in exchange for food for the most deprived.

The super-marathon will take place on 7 July. The initiative, called "Desafio Solidário do Bem" has the partnership of Belas Shopping and aims to raise donations for Josefina Bakhita, Pequena Semente and Mamã Muxima centers.

The final goal is to collect at least one thousand kilos of food and hygiene products.

The marathon runner has participated in several super marathons. The most recent one was in May, when he proposed to run for eight hours straight on an electric treadmill to collect donations for the most needy.

In 2016, he ran 194.2 kilometres in a challenge and in 2017 he joined the spartatlhon, running 246 kilometres.
