Vladimir Tararov, who was speaking on Tuesday at a reception for Russia Day, which was attended by representatives of the Angolan Executive, members of the National Assembly and the diplomatic corps accredited in Angola, said that Russia and Angola look "with firm confidence to the development" of Russian-Angolan ties.
The Russian diplomat also highlighted the celebration, this year, of 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
"This year marks the 50th anniversary of Angola's independence, it is very symbolic and of great importance that diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 11 November 1975 and also have 50 years of history", highlighted the Russian ambassador.
Cooperation between Angola and Russia is gradually developing on the basis of mutual respect for interests, friendship and fraternity, which unite the peoples and governments of both countries, stressed Vladimir Tararov.
According to the Russian ambassador to Angola, several important legal instruments have recently been signed in various fields, which are aimed at taking cooperation between the two countries to a new qualitative level.
The Russian ambassador stressed that for the 2025/2026 academic year, more than 400 scholarships from the Russian state were granted to Angolan citizens "to study at Russian universities free of charge", and more than 6000 people enrolled for studies in Russia.
In August 2024, Vladimir Tararov stressed, as part of Russia's humanitarian assistance to the Angolan people, 50 high-comfort ambulances were delivered to the Angolan Ministry of Health, and preparations are underway for the opening of the Russian Cultural Training Centre in Luanda.
"We look to the future with firm confidence in the development of Russian and Angolan ties," the ambassador stated, highlighting the support given to the Angolan state, first by the Soviet Union and later by Russia, in the liberation of Southern Africa, which allowed Angola to play a central role in the liberation of this region.
"Today, Angola's contribution to regional peace and stability has been notable, and it is now recognised for its experience in conflict resolution, national reconciliation and humanitarian assistance," he said.
According to Vladimir Tararov, the future of the African continent depends on its youth, "who need to be educated based on historical truth", in order to "resist the advance of neocolonialism and new forms of oppression".
In statements to the press, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Isaac dos Anjos, highlighted the "very close" relations of cooperation and friendship with Russia, considering that from the point of view of training personnel, that European country "has made an extraordinary contribution to Angola".
"Our relations with Russia remain at the same level of cooperation and we intend to continue to maintain them", he stressed.
Regarding the sector he manages in particular, Isaac dos Anjos said that there are close trade relations with Russia in the agricultural sector, stressing that Angola has also purchased fertilizers, motorized equipment and technology from that country.
"Russia also has a protocol with Angola on opening markets, but we are very shy in the business sector when it comes to taking advantage of the markets that are open to us to export. This protocol is signed, is valid and represents almost 36 products that have an export market to Russia. Our businesspeople need to be more involved to see if we can expand", he said.
