Government to deliver fuel cards outside Luanda this Wednesday

This Wednesday, the Ministries of Transport and Finance will begin distributing gasoline consumption cards outside Luanda, appealing for serenity and calm following riots that resulted in several deaths.

:

The announcement, made through a joint communiqué released at the beginning of the evening, which outlines the measures to mitigate the impact of the withdrawal of fuel subsidies, providing benefits for taxis, motorcycle taxis and artisanal fishing vessels, previously licensed, through cards of gasoline consumption.

So far, 2,368 cards have been issued and around 23,000 requests are being issued to banks, with the target assumed by the end of June being “massive coverage of those who have been licensed to date”.

"After the start of the distribution of cards in the province of Luanda, we will start, tomorrow, the distribution of cards to the provinces", says the statement.

Currently, the majority of licensed taxi drivers and motorcycle taxi drivers do not have the respective cards and will have to assume the costs of refueling until they receive them.

However, upon receiving the cards, beneficiaries will have an available balance equivalent to the daily value accumulated since the 2nd of June, to cover the difference between the current price and the previous price.

Last Thursday, the Government announced the gradual withdrawal of the fuel subsidy, which began with gasoline, but exempting taxi drivers, motorcycle taxi drivers, and artisanal fishermen through personalized cards.

The increase provoked riots and clashes in Huambo which resulted in at least five dead, eight injured and more than 30 arrested. Taxis and motorcycle taxi drivers also decided to stop in Lubango, with some incidents recorded

“We appeal to the need of all taxi drivers, motorcycle taxi drivers and artisanal fishermen to maintain the current price, as well as calm and serenity”, concluded the note from the authorities.
