The project aimed at transforming the former building of the National Assembly (AN) into Casa do Artista will start this year. The announcement was made by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Environment, Filipe Zau.

Speaking at the end of the second Consultative Council of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment, the official did not go into great detail about the undertaking, having only clarified that the works to convert the former AN headquarters into a Casa do Artista, Palácio da Música e Teatro start this year, writes Angop.

Without mentioning the cost of the works, Filipe Zau also took the opportunity to inform that the start of the work on the restoration of the Cultural Center of Huambo is also planned for this year.

Cited by Angop, the minister considered that in this way there will be better conditions and chances for artists to exhibit their works in the future as well as benefit from social support through the Casa do Artista, "something that was not guaranteed to them".

He also spoke about the field of social justice, stressing that the sector should act to ensure the copyright and related rights of the works, adding that soon a seminar will be held with a view to ensuring the intellectual property of national artists .

Filipe Zau also made it known that the delivery of the Artist's Card is also planned, as well as the promotion of the process of registration with Social Security for all artists, writes Angop.

It should be noted that the former AN building was built in colonial times, when it was used as a cinema-theater in Luanda. According to Angop, after independence was proclaimed, the infrastructure became the headquarters of the AN, which is currently vacant due to the inauguration of the new Casa das Leis.
