The brother of António Agostinho Neto, the first president of Angola, has died

José Agostinho Neto, younger brother of the first President of Angola, Antonio Agostinho Neto, and former ambassador, died on Saturday in Lisbon from illness, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX).

José Agostinho Neto, affectionately known as "Uncle Loló", was 85 years old and a regular member of the MPLA, António Agostinho Neto's party, which has been in power in Angola since 1975, when the country gained independence.

He was ambassador in the Republic of Congo, Tanzania and Botswana, a member of the Banco de Poupança e Crédito (BPC) and non-executive director of the António Agostinho Neto Foundation (FAAN), "where he looked after the legacy of the Founder of the Angolan Nation, his brother older", adds the statement from MIREX, which ends by addressing condolences to the family.
