The Grand Prize for Chronic Literature and Dispersed Literary APE/Municipal Council of Loulé was awarded unanimously by the jury, made up of Carina Infante do Carmo, Carlos Albino Guerreiro and Fernando Batista, the APE said in a statement.
In the award attribution minutes, the jury justified its choice with the "dexterity in writing the chronicle, which is nuanced in the forms of the short story, the essay and the diary notes without compromising the calibrated design of the book".
"In the hands of José Eduardo Agualusa, the chronicle is an accurate probe of ordinary personal days and the collective time that is ours, tense, troubled, broadening our horizons to mainly African geographies through beautiful, lucid and poetic writing", he added. the jury.
The Grand Prize for Chronicles and Dispersos Literários, established by the APE, with the sponsorship of the Loulé City Council, "is intended to annually award a work in Portuguese, by a Portuguese author, published in book and in the first edition in Portugal, in the year of 2021".
The monetary value of this award is 12 thousand euros. The award ceremony will take place on Loulé Municipality Day, on the 26th of May.
Last year, the winner of the Crónica e Dispersos Literários Grand Prix was Lídia Jorge, with the book "In all the senses".
In previous editions, this award has distinguished authors José Tolentino Mendonça, Rui Cardoso Martins, Mário Cláudio, Pedro Mexia and Mário de Carvalho.
