The agreement, which was signed in Lusaka (Zambia) and witnessed by Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, establishes the legal basis for direct commercial flights between Angola and Zambia.

On the occasion, the Minister of Transport considered that the document symbolizes "a significant advance" for the country's civil aviation.

"This agreement represents a significant advance for Angolan civil aviation, because it legally consolidates our capacity to operate new routes and reinforces Angola's position as a strategic hub in the Southern African region," said Ricardo D'Abreu, quoted by Jornal de Angola.

According to the Minister of Transport, this direct connection with Zambia is only the beginning of greater openness and connectivity that is being "built with our African neighbors and partners."

According to a statement from the National Advisory Board for Impact Investment Zambia, to which VerAngola had access, the bilateral air services agreement "allows designated airlines to operate flights between Zambia and Angola, including: route and frequency rights; mutual recognition of aviation licenses; and unrestricted fifth freedom traffic rights, in line with the Yamoussoukro Decision, promoting deeper intra-African air connectivity".
