The US President's special envoy also addressed peace and security in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, "emphasizing the mediation efforts of João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and African Union Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa".
"Advisor Massad Boulos has been appointed by President Donald Trump as the United States Special Envoy for the Great Lakes region, an area of Central Africa that includes countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania," the statement said, explaining that "one of Advisor Massad Boulos's roles is to coordinate US efforts to promote peace and security in the region, as well as to facilitate dialogue between countries in the region and with different international organizations."
