The memorandum of understanding, which arises from the general cooperation protocol signed between the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Justice of Portugal in 2018, was signed by the director-general of the Criminal Investigation Service, Luciano da Silva, and by the national director of the Portuguese Judicial Police, Luís Neves.
According to a press release from the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), to which Lusa had access, the two institutions will cooperate in the areas of crimes against people, fundamentally against personal freedom and sexual self-determination.
The exchange of information and technical assistance will also focus on economic and financial crimes, with an emphasis on corruption, tax fraud and money laundering, cybercrimes, drug trafficking, environmental crimes and others.
