Luanda among the cities chosen to host the ‘Cinema of Commoning’ project

Luanda is one of the eight cities chosen to host the 'Cinema of Commoning' project, an initiative of the bi'bak platform that aims to bring together a network of knowledge about the cinematographic universe around the world.

According to a statement sent to VerAngola, Luanda is part of the project via Cine Geração – a film exhibition space located in the backyard of the production company Geração 80 – and which will have the Goethe Institut-Angola as a local partner.

The project, launched in 2020, is divided into two phases. "In the months of April and May, a collectively curated film program will be shown at partner cinemas in the cities of Luanda, Bangkok, Berlin, Jakarta, Istanbul, Dubai, Santiago de Chile and Cluj", indicates the note.

In the case of Luanda, the films will be shown on the screens of Cine Geração next month.

A three-day symposium will be held in June, which will bring together "initiatives from partners, film professionals and cinephiles in Berlin, in order to develop more concepts and strategies for sustainable spaces dedicated to film culture".

The note also notes that a total of eight films were chosen (Angola, Germany, Turkey, Thailand, Romania, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates and Chile) "thought out of a cinematographic series curated collectively by all cities that brings together different social communities and connects places close and geographically distant, links past, present and future and moves away from a Eurocentric gaze towards transnational, (post)migrant and postcolonial perspectives".
