Sellers hide gas cylinders to push prices up, denounces Sonangol

There are kitchen gas resellers who are taking a portion of the bottles in order to increase the price of the product. According to Sonangol's complaint, the dealers have alleged that prices have gone up because of product shortages.

The price of gas has increased in recent days: on Thursday, in some areas of the capital, a 12 kilo bottle cost 4,000 kwanzas, whereas previously the price was set at 1,500 kwanzas. However, according to Sonangol, some retailers are taking some of the bottles to claim that prices have gone up because there is little product.

The information is provided by Sonangol's director of communication and image, Dionisio Rocha, who states that there is no disruption in gas production. In statements to Angop, he assures that production continues to be made on a regular basis, admitting that Sonangol has increased its production capacity by 35 percent. For this reason, he continued, there is enough gas to meet demand.

Regretting the attitude of the resellers, Dionisio Rocha revealed that the oil company is distributing around 140 thousand bottles a day.

The oil company and the relevant authorities are working together to identify sellers who are taking advantage of this situation to speculate on gas prices, he said, adding that five dealers have so far been arrested in Luanda.

Dionísio Rocha also said that the authorities and the oil company are "paying more attention to this situation" so that market prices return to normal.

"There is no need to buy gas wholesale, that is, four to five bottles, because the production process will continue without any problem," he added.
