Angola renews its presence in the joint SADC force supporting Mozambique

Angola will maintain, for another three months, the Angolan component of the SADC joint force for the Southern African Mission in Mozambique, with human and financial resources equivalent to 1.1 million dollars.

The National Assembly approved this Friday the joint report on the specialty and the draft resolution authorizing the President of the Republic to maintain the Angolan component of the Alert Force of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in Mozambique.

The draft resolution authorizes the President, as Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces, to maintain the Angolan component which will be made up of 20 soldiers, namely two officers in the regional cooperation mechanism, eight officers in command of the force and 10 crew members.

The Angolan mission also includes material means, namely an IL-76 strategic aerial projection aircraft, financial means worth 1,174,307 dollars, with a duration of three months, also including logistical support and training, to strengthen the capacity of the Armed Forces of Mozambique.

The document stresses that Angola has been a member state of SADC since its founding in 1980, and the community is governed by the principles of sovereign equality, solidarity, non-interference in the internal affairs of States and cooperation in the most varied domains.

SADC, also highlights the document, concerned about the prevailing insecurity situation in Mozambique, with terrorist acts perpetrated against innocent civilians, women and children in some districts of Cabo Delgado province, carried out on June 23, 2021, in the city of Maputo , Mozambique, the extraordinary summit of heads of state and government, with the aim of assessing the situation in that country.

"In this way, the summit deliberated on the deployment of components of the SADC State of Alert Force, until July 15, 2021, with the purpose of supporting the Mozambican Defense Forces (FADM), in the fight against terrorism and acts of violent extremism in Cabo Delgado", stresses the draft resolution.

The resolution authorizing the maintenance of the Angolan component in the SADC mission received a favorable opinion from the Defense, Security, Internal Order, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Angolan Communities Abroad and Constitutional and Legal Affairs committees.

The joint opinion report was approved in the specialty at a joint meeting of the specialized working committees, with 31 votes in favor and no votes against or abstentions.
