Rice imports cost 26 million dollars a month. Every month, Angola imports a total of 15 thousand tons of this basic food basket product.

The revelation was made this Saturday by the Secretary of State for the Economy, Mário Caetano Júnior, at the end of his visit to the farm "Arrozal" - dedicated to rice production and located in the municipality of Camacupa, Bié.

In his statements, Mário Caetano Júnior praised the work done in that agricultural production and added that the aim of that company is to combat the import of this food.

Basically, the farm wants to reduce the imports made by our country. For this, the company aims to produce the number of tons of rice that Angola imports per month - 15 thousand tons.

In the same visit, the director of the farm, Ana Paula Lopes, cited by Angop, revealed that this year the production had a loss of 150 hectares of cultivation due to the rains, having survived 600 hectares.

Each hectare is capable of producing seven tons of rice, she said. As for daily production, she said the figures range from 12 to 14 tons of the three types of rice.

Ana Paula Lopes also said the rice is sold to national traders and is also exported to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.
