Angolans detained with 138,000 euros in Namibia present in court on Friday

Three Angolans detained in December last year at an airport in Namibia while trying to leave the country with about 138,000 euros will be presented to court on Friday, according to the Namibian press.

:

The three women, aged between 35 and 47, were arrested on 4 December at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Namibia, when they were traveling to China in possession of 150,190 US dollars, 6250 euros and 4083 Namibian dollars, totaling 138.5 thousand euros.

According to the Namibian portal New Era Live, the three women will be brought to court on Friday, March 13.

The suspicions were accused of exporting foreign exchange and concealing the illicit origin of goods, and pleaded not guilty.

According to the person in charge of the investigations, Erwin Serogwe, the suspicions did not declare the funds they were carrying, something that led the authorities to suspect that they were due to illegal activities.

Serogwe added that the three Angolans were only searched because a hook used by one of them triggered the scanners at the airport.

This led the immigration services to search the three women, having found the money hidden in bras, diapers they were using, on the soles of their shoes, and money was also found in suitcases hidden inside their luggage.

In January, the three Angolans saw their request for release on bail rejected after not presenting documents to justify the transportation and legitimacy of the currencies they were carrying.
