According to reports of populars present on the scene, quoted by Novo Jornal, the shot was fired by an officer of the National Police, when he was trying to drive away the crowd that had concentrated in the recruitment center of the armed forces.

However, in statements to the same newspaper, Hermenegildo de Brito, the spokesman for the Luanda Provincial Command of the National Police, denied that the officer was the author of the shot.

"The Provincial Police Command of Luanda was called upon to help in the panic that has broken out in the Military Recruitment District, where many young people have rushed en masse to register in FAA ranks. We certainly do not know where the shooting came from, we cannot say it was an agent of the National Police or the FAA, because there are many people who take advantage of these situations and infiltrate the population to discredit the Government," he said.

As for the injured, the police spokesman said he had already received medical assistance and was out of danger. The young man is expected to be discharged this Monday morning.

A large number of people went to the DRM to sign up for a position in the armed forces. However, a source in the district revealed that the FAA has no open positions and the alleged announcement of the vacancy was nothing more than false information.

The FAA source contacted by Lusa revealed that an investigation is under way to ascertain the origin of the information, as well as of the shots fired, pointing out that it is in the armed forces' interest to clarify the matter.
