Speaking on Tuesday, at the ceremony held by the Secretariat of the Political Bureau for his recent election to the rotating presidency of the AU, the head of state considered that "all Angolans should be very proud" of this recognition.
"All Angolans should be very proud of the recognition that the African continent gives to Angola, and I will do everything to honor the name of Angola and Angolans, in the exercise of my functions as president of the African Union," he said.
According to a statement from the MPLA, to which VerAngola had access, at the time, João Lourenço pointed out that this achievement does not belong only to him, but to the entire country.
"The President of the MPLA, who received a bouquet of flowers during the tribute, highlighted that the feat achieved does not belong to citizen João Lourenço, but to Angola and all Angolans", reads the note.
The tribute ceremony took place in the amphitheater of the party's national headquarters and was led by Mara Quiosa, vice-president of the MPLA, who, on behalf of the organization, congratulated João Lourenço "for this historic milestone for Angola".
"We are very proud of your election, Comrade President," said Mara Quiosa, reaffirming that "your party, which is also your family, warmly embraces you for this achievement and will be with you to help you, so that, with resilience and courage, you successfully fulfill the noble mission that has been entrusted to you".
Also present at the event were the MPLA's general secretary, Paulo Pombolo, as well as members of the Political Bureau Secretariat and directors of the party's Central Committee offices and departments.
It is worth remembering that João Lourenço assumed the rotating presidency of the AU on February 15.
Also on Tuesday, the Secretariat of the MPLA Political Bureau presented to João Lourenço "the new members of the JMPLA executive body, elected at the first ordinary meeting of the organization's national committee, which took place on February 12" of this year.
This presentation took place after the ceremony honoring João Lourenço.
"At the end of the meeting, the members of the JMPLA Secretariat spoke informally and took photos with President João Lourenço, in a moment of conviviality that marked the trajectory of those young politicians", says the note.
