‘Food Recovery Program’ was launched by the Carrinho group and aims to combat waste

A program to combat waste, which aims to reuse and distribute food items that are about to expire to citizens facing hunger, was launched by Carrinho group.

:

This is the 'Food Recovery Programme', which was launched this Wednesday. To this end, according to Angop, the group signed an agreement with the Evangelical Congregational Church of Angola (IECA), which will be responsible for distributing the reused food items in Benguela, Huambo and Bié.

The signatories of the document that determines the collaboration between the two entities were the general secretary of IECA, André Cangovi Eurico, and Samuel Candundo, non-executive director of the group, and the ceremony took place in Benguela, at the Carrinho Industrial Complex.

On the occasion, Samuel Candundo made it known that, within the scope of the program, 900 tons of beans were made available, to be given to families in need in the provinces of Benguela, Huambo and Bié.

The person in charge explained that food that is about to expire or that has been discarded for sale will be delivered to citizens who are struggling with hunger.

Thus, he added that "whenever there is a product on the shelves, it is removed immediately before it reaches its expiration date and delivered to those who need it."

Quoted by Angop, he also said he believes that many citizens will benefit from this initiative, which aims to generate a food distribution network in each province.

According to the person responsible, the factory ends up discarding goods such as rice, beans, oil, etc., due to existing parameters in the food industry that have to be followed and also because of the approaching end of the expiration date, but which are still good to consume. In this way, this program will help reduce food waste, as this type of product will not be thrown away.

Among other aspects, the person in charge said that, alongside IECA, the initiative also has the involvement of other religious entities, such as the Adventist, Catholic, IESA, IEBA and Methodist churches, responsible for managing the process in the other regions of Angola, writes Angop.
