The official said that the port has been the target of improvements, both in terms of technology and in terms of daily work, having considered that the most important thing is for the company to be ready for the future.

In this sense, Miguel Pipa, quoted by Angop, revealed that the management's list of priorities includes the execution of the Master Plan.

Among the actions that are part of the plan – which is expected to last 20 years, starting in 2020 – is the increase in operations to Barra do Dande, which will allow the Port of Luanda to handle around 36 million tons of charge until 2040.

Speaking during the IX Consultative Council of the Port of Luanda, the official did not reveal the costs or the number of jobs. However, he mentioned that the future involves the adoption of equipment that encourages increased productivity.

Digitization started in 2020, when the days of processing to lift a container dropped from five to one.

"At the moment, users (dispatchers, shipping agents, service providers, among others) do not need to travel to Porto to deal with matters related to the institution, because through the Single Port Window they deal with everything, including payments, without leaving the their offices or places of residence", he informed, quoted by Angop.

Miguel Pipa also spoke about the VTS system – a navigation support system – which makes navigation safer in the Bay of Luanda.

He also took the opportunity to mention that the port "is being prepared to rub shoulders with the main ones in the region and perhaps in the world", adding that for this they have "to develop and make major changes to the infrastructure, especially the increase in the funds of the berth which are from 7 to 12.5 to minus 15 or minus 16 according to international standards".

The official also said that the objective is to make the port capable of receiving state-of-the-art ships, investing in the increase in embankments, making the port more attractive and allowing it to receive cargo from neighboring countries.

Last year, the port handled 14,200,000 tons of cargo.
