US launches funding tender for anti-corruption projects in Angola

The United States of America (USA) launched a1.3 million dollars financing tender for projects to combat corruption in Angola.

:

The announcement was published by the Department of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) of the US Department of State and informs that the funding will be 1.3 million dollars for a project that works with civil society to fight corruption in Angola.

The projects competing for the initiative "DRL: Reducing Corruption in Angola" should demonstrate that they can "support the growth of Angolan civil society and independent 'media' in raising public awareness and supporting reforms for transparency and fighting corruption".

This is an open competition, with online applications that must be submitted by April 14th (11:59 pm ET).

For DRL, the objectives are to train national civil society and the media to use tools for investigating and monitoring corruption, with education and public involvement "in the ongoing corruption reforms in Angola".

"The desired results of this program are that Angolan citizens have a greater knowledge of the anti-corruption reforms underway in the country and how to advocate for these reforms, and so that civil society has a greater capacity to investigate corruption safely", reads in the announcement.

The contest is mainly aimed at non-profit or non-governmental organizations based in any part of the world, public international organizations and higher education institutions (private, public or state).

For-profit organizations or businesses can also participate.

The DRL also indicates the possibility of creating consortia or sets of several entities, but any joint application must indicate a leading organization.

According to the US State Department, applications must include measures with an impact and the potential to bring about reforms in the country, along with a budget in US dollars and proposals for budgets 12 months after funding guaranteed by the USA, as proof of viability and sustainability .

"Programs should aim to include groups that can bring perspectives based on their religion, gender, disability, race, ethnicity or sexual orientation and gender identity," added the DRL.

Applicants can find registration forms, kits or other materials needed to register at www.grants.gov, under the title "DRL: Reducing Corruption in Angola", or number "SFOP0007581".

The State Department includes words of praise to President João Lourenço for "impressive strides in continuing an anti-corruption agenda" in the past two years.

For the USA, the successes of João Lourenço's presidency are, namely, the fight against the capture of the State, "fight against the power of the elites", denunciation and accusation of former State officials and a new law to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
