Cafunfo: opposition defends Laborinho's departure and commander of the National Police

In a statement released after a meeting that took place this Friday in Luanda, parliamentary representatives of the three parties stated that "in the democratic rule of law, citizens have the right to peaceful and orderly assembly and demonstration, under the terms of the Constitution and of law".

On Saturday, participants in a demonstration promoted by the Portuguese Protectorate Movement Lunda Tchokwe (MPPLT) and security forces were involved in clashes at Cafunfo.

The police reported that about 300 people linked to the Portuguese Protectorate Movement Lunda Tchokwe (MPPLT), which has been defending the autonomy of that region for years, tried to invade a police station on Saturday and in defense the order and security forces fatally hit six people.

The police version is contradicted by MPPLT leaders, opposition political parties and local civil society, who speak of more than a dozen deaths.

Parliamentary representatives stressed, in the statement, the reasons for the demands in Lunda Norte: "The lack of everything that is basic for human survival, namely drinking water, electricity, quality food, quality education, medical care and medicines from quality, employment, wages compatible with the cost of living, which is one of the most expensive in the country, roads ", among other needs.

Following Saturday's incidents, five UNITA deputies and two activists traveled to Cafunfo, but were stranded five kilometers from the village's entrance.

Situation that, for UNITA (National Union for the Total Independence of Angola), CASA-CE (Wide Convergence of Salvation of Angola-Electoral Coalition) and PRS (Social Renewal Party), besides "a humiliation for members of a sovereign body, it is an attack on dignity, human rights and a strong violation of the fundamental law of the Republic of Angola ".

"We cannot accept that our fellow deputies are treated without the slightest dignity on the part of agents of authority, in clear violation of Article 1 of our Constitution which establishes the principle of the dignity of the human person," they said in the note.

The parliamentary groups considered that, "due to the unworthy behavior of both the Minister of Interior and the Commander-in-Chief of the National Police, both should make their positions available, for having done a poor service to democracy and peace, themselves fragile ".

"Or in the event of not having that decency, the holder of the executive branch exonerates his aides", they urged.

In the note, they also demanded "the replacement of the order and the right of the deputies", appealing to the executive that they "be unconditionally authorized to enter Vila do Cafunfo, exercising their parliamentary activity with the electorate".
