President of TPA understands that Portuguese-speaking public televisions should reactivate meetings

Portuguese-speaking public television stations want to resume biannual meetings, on a rotating basis and to discuss the sector's problems and carry out training, official sources said this Friday in the city of Praia. The president of the Public Television of Angola (TPA), Francisco Mendes, recalled that the forum only took place once in 2018, having been paralyzed due to covid-19, but understood that public televisions should work on its reactivation.

"We can safely do this rotation in our six countries [Portugal and the five African Countries of the Official Portuguese Language (PALOP)], we can move forward with this idea that already existed a few years ago and that is essential for us to walk together and improve", challenged the chairman of the board of directors of RTP, Nicolau Santos, who is in the city of Praia to participate in the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of RTP Africa.

The president of the Public Television of Angola (TPA), Francisco Mendes, recalled that the forum took place only once in 2018, having been stopped due to the covid-19 pandemic, but understood that public televisions should work on its reactivation.

"Because that will allow us to carry out many projects in common", stressed the leader, pointing out special joint broadcasts on certain dates, which would be transmitted to all these countries.

The president of TPA lamented a "very little cooperation" in the exchange of contents between public televisions, considering that this is one of the aspects to be improved, as well as training, exchange.

In this sense, he hopes that the event held by Portuguese public television will serve to bring television and other Portuguese-speaking media closer together.

From the program celebrating the 25th anniversary of RTP Africa, a conference was held this Friday morning in Praia, under the theme "Public Television: service and innovation", which was attended by all the presidents of public television in the PALOP and political commentator Marques Mendes.

The president of RTP highlighted the involvement of all Portuguese-speaking African countries in the creation of RTP Africa, in 1998, emphasizing its success and saying that it is "making a difference".

In addition to the resumption of meetings between television stations, Nicolau Santos also proposed the resumption of Net RTP, which allowed private operators to broadcast two public television contents a day without any financial burden.

"I think that this is also something very important to resume, this ability to help each other, to become better mutually and to know each other better," said the president.

The celebrations of the 25th anniversary of RTP Africa continue on Saturday with a gala and musical show in the city of Praia.
