President appointed Altino dos Santos Chief of General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces

On Friday, the President dismissed the Chief of General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces, António Santos, and appointed Altino dos Santos to replace him.


A note from the press secretary of the Presidency of Angola refers that the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, issued the decree after hearing the National Security Council, which met on Thursday.

Army General António Egídio de Sousa e Santos, who had been Chief of General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) since 2018, was replaced by aviation general Altino Carlos José dos Santos, who has held the position of commander of the National Air Force until now.

The President also dismissed the director general of the External Intelligence Service, general José Luís Caetano Higino de Sousa, who was replaced by Matias Bertino Matondo.

The dismissals also covered the position of adviser to the FAA's Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Artur dos Santos Vinama, who will occupy the position of Deputy Chief of General Staff for the Operational and Development Area.

The President appointed General Adão Adriano António to the post of President of the Superior Council of Military Discipline of the General Staff of the FAA.

The note stresses that General João Serafim Kiteculo was also appointed to the posts of Army Commander, as 2nd Army Commander, Lieutenant General João Cruz da Fonseca, as Air Force Commander, General Virgínio António da Cunha Pinto, and the 2nd commander of the National Air Force, Lieutenant General Emanuel Mendes Vasconcelos.

Vice-Admiral Noé Rodrigues João Magalhães was appointed to the position of 2nd commander of the Angolan Navy, and General Sequeira João Lourenço was appointed to the position of deputy head of the Military House of the President of the Republic.
