Entertainment and catering entrepreneurs admit strike due to limitations

Entrepreneurs in the entertainment and restaurant sector in Luanda admit to paralyzing work and going on strike to contest the limitations imposed by the authorities due to covid-19, referring that there are operators who “have not worked for two years”.

The claim was advanced by the sector's entrepreneur and DJ Cláudio Rodrigues, better known in the entertainment world as "DJ Malvado", referring that there are "people who have not been in business for more than two years" in the sector.

"DJ Malvado", who defended dialogue with the authorities, said that businessmen in the field have been at a standstill for a long time and questioned "why the 100 percent opening of squares and taxis is not extended to the entertainment sector" .

"We need to work under conditions, we've been idle for a long time, the squares are 100 percent open, taxis are 100 percent full and we don't? You can't do that, we insure people better than the squares and taxis", he said, speaking to Lusa.

The need to stop services in the catering and entertainment sectors, as a last resort, especially in Luanda, was recently addressed during a meeting between event promoters, DJs and other cultural activities organizers.

The presidential decree maintains the ban on nightclubs, but allows non-dancing music shows until 8:00 pm, and for this purpose they must be performed in closed rooms, with a guarantee of complete immunization or negative test, limitation of up to 50 per percent of the space's capacity and banning of dance floors.
