In a statement sent to VerAngola, MultiChoice says that it has expanded its offer with the launch of two new television channels, 'Kwenda Magic' (Angola) and 'Maningue Magic', aimed at the Mozambican audience.

"The new Portuguese-language channels will show dramas, soap operas, local versions of hit reality shows, hilarious comedies, dubbed international content and national music on DStv and GOtv platforms," the note reads.

According to the statement, 'Kwenda Magic' will air "flagship programs" that include 'O Rio', "an Angolan adaptation of 1Magic's popular telenovela 'The River'; 'Makongo', a new drama about of a young man in Luanda and 'Salão de Beleza', a sitcom about an establishment in Luanda and its diverse and dramatic clients".

The company also reports that in 2021, it "produced an additional 2692 hours of local content", with the "combined MultiChoice local content library now approaching 66,000 hours and representing 45 percent of total entertainment content spend".

"While this ratio is in line with local content goals, the group plans to further increase investment in local content," the statement said.

According to João Ribeiro, channel director for 'Kwenda Magic' and 'Maningue Magic', the new channels "are already giving a significant boost to the production industries in both countries".

Cited in the note, the official explained that "until now, independent producers had few outlets for their work and had to act at various levels, struggling to get budgets and have their content displayed." However, with MultiChoice's channels, "which show content 24 hours a day" there is the possibility to "invite local producers to present ideas, commission and develop projects and pay fair and market-related prices for the work".
