The information was advanced by the Minister of State for the Social Area, Carolina Cequeira, who also affirmed that Angola was thus the country that most invested in vaccines, with support from the United Nations system. These 12 vaccines are designed to protect 13 diseases in children under the age of five.
“In Angola, we defend universal access to preventive and curative health services as a manifestation of human rights. Health is also reflected in the reduction of poverty and vulnerability”, said the minister, quoted by Angop.
The responsible for the area of Social Action, also said that the Government has been coordinating efforts in order to increase - in the short and medium term - the budget for the health sector. The priorities are the construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure and the expansion of municipal health networks.
Another of the focal points of this tour of the Government for the improvement of the health sector at national level is also the strengthening of training and management of human resources linked to the area.
Carolina Cequeira also referred that the Government started the development of a system of grouped purchases of medicines, with special emphasis on tuberculosis and malaria drugs, using a platform from the Ministry of Finance that allows savings in funds allocated through public tenders.
Direct purchases were made from the United Nations, particularly for antiretrovirals.
The minister said that Angola will start a program to fight child malnutrition. "The sustainable development of our country undoubtedly involves solving the main health problems that afflict our populations, through structural solutions in which families and communities must participate", she noted.
