Sonangol integrated into the block 15 contractor group with 10 percent stake

Sonangol, a state-owned oil company, joins, with a 10 percent stake, the contracting group for Block 15, after signing a contract between the National Oil and Gas Agency (ANPG) and ExxonMobil.

The agreement signed, on Monday, between ANPG, as a concessionaire, regulator and inspector of the sector in the 'upstream' segment (exploration and oil production), and ExxonMobil, operator of Block 15 in Angola, establishes the amendment the current production sharing contract for that block.

ANPG informs, in a press release distributed this Tuesday, that as part of the agreement, the production license for Block 15 will be extended until 2032, with Sonangol becoming an integral part of the contracting group, with 10 percent, in co-participation with ExxonMobil (36 percent), BP Exploration (24 percent), ENI Angola Exploration (18 percent) and Equinor Angola (12 percent).

“The contract is signed following the Commitment Agreement initialed on June 5 of last year, allowing ExxonMobil to execute a drilling program for several years in the Block and install new technology, in order to increase the capacity of the flow lines existing submarines”, the note refers.

The execution of this project will generate around 1,000 local jobs, with an estimated daily production of approximately 40,000 additional barrels of oil.

“By means of this agreement, ExxonMobil and its partners will contribute to the increase in investments necessary to increase production in the short term and generate more jobs at the local level”, considered the chairman of the Board of ANPG, Paulino Jerónimo, quoted in note.

In turn, the director general of ExxonMobil in Angola, Andre Kostelnik, stressed that “this collaboration with ANPG will allow Block 15 to optimize recovery and add oil production from mature fields”.
