Sonangol initiated process to privatize companies in which it holds assets

The National Fuel Society of Angola (Sonangol) announced this Thursday the launch of the public tender for "the alienation of participatory interests" that it holds in seven companies, all in the tourism sector.

:

In a note sent to the press, the company made it public that, "within the scope of the Restructuring Program and following the approval by the executive of the Privatization Program (ProPriv), took place, from 20 December 2019 to 30 January 2020, the launch of the public tender for the sale of participatory interests "in several companies.

Atlântida Viagens e Turismo Lisbon, Atlântida Viagens Luanda, WTA International, WTA Travel Agency Luanda, WTA Paris, WTA / Houston Express and ITSS International Travel Services and Systems are the seven companies included in this competition, all of which are dedicated "to travel activities and tourism and have headquarters in Angola, Portugal, the United States of America and France ", adds the statement.

In the note, Sonangol added that it will soon launch public tenders for "its participative interests" in the companies Sonaid - Drilling Support Services, Sonasurf Internacional and Sonasurf Angola (operation and management of vessels supporting oil activities) , and Founton (real estate management), as well as in the Hotel Suite, in Maianga.

Within the scope of the Privatization Program (ProPriv), which lists 195 public companies to privatize by 2022, Sonangol is expected to divest around 70 assets, at least 50 of which are under the direct control of the oil company's management.

The company also faces a restructuring program, through which it recently acquired a 25 percent stake in the Brazilian company Oi in Unitel for 900 million euros.

This measure allowed, according to the company's management, “the stabilization and normalization of the activities of Multitel and Unitel", with Sonangol now holding 50 percent of the latter.

Likewise, the Secretary of State for Petroleum of Angola, José Alexandre Barroso, defended that the acquisition of shares in Unitel was due to "a concern" that Sonangol has with its own improvement, adding that the telecommunications operator, where businesswoman Isabel dos Santos holds 25 percent, it is "very important for Angola".

Unitel had four shareholders with equal shares (25 percent): PT Ventures (Oi), Sonangol, Vidatel (controlled by Isabel dos Santos) and Geni (general Leopoldino Fragoso do Nascimento).
